The Wordshoppers are Jean Atkin and Liz Hyder – hello!
We are experienced workshop leaders and creatives noted for our inventive and energetic approach and our warm and encouraging people-skills.
Jean Atkin is an experienced writer, award-winning poet and educator. Her collection Not Lost Since Last Time is published by Oversteps Books and she has also published five poetry pamphlets and a children’s novel. Her poems feature in numerous anthologies published by the likes of Second Light, Candlestick Press, Cinnamon and Grey Hen. She has had poetry commissioned and performed for BBC Radio 4 and has performed at numerous poetry and literary festivals including StAnza, Wenlock Poetry Festival and Ledbury Poetry Festival.
She has held residencies and worked on projects in both Scotland and England including at Acton Scott Farm in Shropshire, Logan Botanic Garden in Galloway and at various libraries, museums and festivals. She has created and run workshops everywhere from schools to farms, beaches and festivals. She tutors for Arvon on their Learning and Participation programme.

Liz is an experienced workshop leader and writer. She trained with Spread the Word in London to run creative writing workshops and is currently working with Writing West Midlands’ young writers group in Hereford. She’s developed a pilot series with Channel 4 Scotland, run workshops everywhere from schools to mosques and libraries. She’s script read for Film Four and script edited for BBC Light Entertainment, she’s currently developing several theatre projects in the West Midlands and is writing her first YA novel. She’s also an experienced copywriter and features writer and has won awards for her short films. As a freelance multi award-winning PR Consultant, she’s worked with big name authors, broadcasters and presenters on media techniques at the BBC and elsewhere.
